Resiliency
Independent Schools Victoria supports Member Schools through the Victorian Government's Student Resiliency Program ensuring that students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will allow them to establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Students with good emotional health have the ability to bounce back from adversity, trauma and stress. This ability is called resilience. Young people who are emotionally and mentally healthy have the tools for coping with difficult situations and maintaining a positive outlook. They remain flexible, focused and creative in both good and bad times.
Several factors that enhance this development are:
- a sense of belonging at school.
- a relationship with at least one competent, caring adult.
- positive social behaviours and problem-solving skills.
- a sense of spiritual and communal belonging.
- strong family relationships and minimal family stress.
- peer connectedness.
Schools are invited to submit an expression of interest, through the targeted programs process, to access funding to support these initiatives. The program must focus on primary prevention and early intervention strategies rather than day-to-day crisis management. The funding criteria is based on the Victorian Government's Framework for Student Support Services.
Independent Schools Victoria provides targeted professional learning so that schools can implement initiatives to create and maintain a safe supporting learning environment for their students. School communities are encouraged to adopt practices that contribute to the safety and wellbeing of all. Some funding is used to subsidise professional learning programs related to student wellbeing / resiliency. Share this page
