There is legislation in place which is designed to ensure the safety and comfort of children while they are in our care. The information below is about 1. Health and Safety  and  2. Inclusion. Health and Safety in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Settings

As ECEC professionals, children’s health and safety is always uppermost in our minds. Understandably there are regulations relating to the holding of First Aid Certificates, Anaphylaxis Training and Asthma Management. There are also guidelines for child immunisation and dealing with infectious diseases within early years operations. To support the sector the state government offers some subsidised training for anaphylaxis management through the Asthma Foundation. The free training is usually available to staff who have not received prior training.

First Aid Training can be done through many Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s). If your centre does not use a regular training agency you can refer to the ACECQA list of approved qualifications. You can also find information about the regulations governing the numbers of staff who need to be trained in the National Regulations: Division 6: pages 143-145.

Inclusion and Integration Services and Support Organisations

Insofar as it is possible, children with special needs and children at risk will thrive best when they are involved with their peers in mainstream education and care settings. There are several organisations that support parents and children in placement and funding for children who require support. See below for access to these organisations and resources.
