Mr Sholto Bowen OAM was originally from South Africa and qualified as a Physics, Chemistry and Maths teacher. He commenced working at Greenside High School and then moved to St Stithians College, where he was promoted to Head of Science and then Senior Master (Administration) and completed a degree majoring in Political Science and Psychology.
In January 1987, Sholto arrived in Australia and he commenced teaching at Huntingtower. The school was founded in 1927 and is a coeducational school in Mt Waverley. He became Vice Principal in 1991 and Principal in 1999. Student numbers have grown from 375 to 730 over the last 20 years. Sholto is a graduate of the Visionary Leadership program and is a Master Trainer in Values Based Learning.
He is on the executive of AHISA (Vic), is a past Chairman of AHISA (Vic) and has completed a five-year term on the National Board of AHISA. He is a member of the Council for Strategic Education.
In 2009, Sholto was awarded the John Laing Professional Development Award and in 2014 was made a Fellow of the Australian Council for Educational Leadership (Victoria).
In 2015, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to education.
