The rights of parents to choose where and how their children are educated must be protected.
Choice empowers parents to select the school that best matches your child’s needs, interests and abilities. Choice means you can send your sons and daughters to schools that reflect your family’s values and ideals.
You know what schooling you want for your children – and you can choose from more than 200 diverse Independent schools in Victoria that provide a wide range of educational philosophies and religious affiliations.
We work for and with our Members Schools to enable them to continue providing the best possible educational outcomes. They are independently managed within Victorian and Australian government policy guidelines and regulations.
Independent schooling in Victoria began more than 160 years ago. Today, 126,000-plus students, almost 15 per cent of Victorian students, attend Independent primary and secondary schools. Our schools are small and large – from 20 students to more than 2000. Most are in and around Melbourne with a third scattered throughout Victoria. All have the same objective – to ensure that students have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
A good source of information about Independent schools is the Parents’ website. Its email service provides some 2000 parents, relatives and friends of Independent school students with accurate and up-to-date information.
As well as current news, the website has information about other topics, such as the Australian Curriculum, My School, cybersafety and bullying. Fact Sheets and articles provide advice on matters like transition through the stages of education, what to expect during work experience, VCE exam preparation and school-life balance.
