One of many projects lead by Independent Schools Victoria under the Australian Government’s National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools Program (NALSSP) was the M Learning Project.
The program began with two days of workshops for teachers of Japanese on the gesture methodology. Teachers then trialled the methodology with a particular class and were supported by a school visit before attending day three of the project.
Day three provided an opportunity for participants to showcase their classroom practice and then participate in a workshop on how mobile devices can be used to enhance language learning. The project concluded with participants using Apple devices to create a film of a Japanese story using gestures which could be used as a classroom resource with students.
A film about the project and the impact on teacher practice and student learning as well as the films created by project participants can be viewed here.
